really going on inside their vivid imaginations. It promises to be a very fun and lively marriage of improv and animation, and I promise you this site will be at the forefront of all the action. We're getting ready for a major overhaul, so don't be surprised if you see a lot of green around here very soon...(Hint, hint.)
So, maybe Whose Line won't return...But at least for this fan, I'm glad it was sacrificed in favour of a show that'll completely change the way people look at improv comedy. Starring Ryan Stiles, Colin Mochrie, Chip Esten, Brad Sherwood, Greg Proops, Jeff Davis, Kathy Kinney, Sean Masterson, and Julie Larson, I'm willing to bet many fans of WL will feel right at home. :-)

I'll be your host for the evening, and hopefully before the night is over you'll have learned incredible amounts of information about WLiiA?, not to mention seen tons of full-color pictures and photos of the contestants, the hosts, and the games.
Now, with all that in mind, get ready to take a trip down the information super highway! Feel free to ENTER MY WORLD!!!

The Radio Show
Whose Line is it Anyway? (WLiiA?) began as a short-lived radio show in Britain, featuring some of the country's top comics playing a series of theatresport-type improv games, live, and often with hilarious results. Lawyer-turned-actor Clive Anderson hosted the series, which ran on the UK's Radio 4 for a year before moving to British television.
The television show followed the same pattern as its predecessor, but the transition to television came with great fluidity; the concept seemed to be made for TV, and the original material struck a chord with British audiences. WLiiA? featured such comedians as Josie Lawrence, Paul Merton, Sandi Toksvig, Mike McShane, Tony Slattery and Steve Frost, and Richard Vranch joined the festivities to provide on-the-spot musical accompaniment for many of the games.
Whose Line also featured a number of talented American and Canadian improvers who brought some color to the proceedings. Among those were Archie Hahn, Greg Proops, George Wendt (of
Cheers
fame), and Ryan Stiles and Colin Mochrie, who became fixtures for later seasons.
The series ran on British television screens for nine seasons and celebrated its tenth year with a trip to America, filming a season's worth of aptly-named "Hollywood" episodes. Clive continued to host as a slew of newcomers joined of the talented original cast, including Catherine O'Hara, Phil LaMarr and others.

The Move to the U.S.
A short while later, American comedy star Drew Carey, bubbling with the success of his own comedy/sitcom, The Drew Carey Show (duh!), pitched WLiiA? to ABC. Ryan Stiles jumped aboard as executive producer, and filming of a slightly more dignified American version begun, which later proved to be a hit.
Drew Carey was now host, and the returning cast included Colin Mochrie, Ryan Stiles, Greg Proops, Brad Sherwood, Wayne Brady and Chip Esten. Laura Hall and Linda Taylor stepped in to provide the music, taking over where Richard Vranch had left off.
ABC's Thursday night lineup proved to be one of the hottest nights on television, featuring WLiiA? and ABC's newfound smash hit gameshow, Who Wants to be a Millionaire?, the network's only other show whose titled asked a rhetorical question. :-)
Alas, all good things must come to an end. It came as a shock when I discovered, accidentally, that ABC hadn't renewed WL for another season, thereby confirming that the series will go the way of the dinosaur, The PJs and Pauly Shore. I find it heart-wrenching to think that the once brightly-lit studio, showcase to some of today's brightest stars, will lay empty and deserted, sporting no evidence of the countless hours of classic comedy that once churned out at gun-fire rate...

The Future
The show is not on ABC's 2004 primetime schedule though, contrary to some reports, it has not been officially cancelled (as of yet.) However, this does not mean that Whose Line has a bright future, either. ABC has said that there are still about 22 unaired episodes left in the can which were filmed in November 2001, but there is no information on if these will ever air or if new episodes will ever be taped again. However, if enough fans of "Whose Line?" show their support and urge ABC using sites like Save "Whose Line", we may succeed in bringing it back for a sixth season.

But don't worry kids, even if WLiiA? doesn't return to the airwaves, Drew Carey isn't about to just let the classic improv we've come to love die. He and his comic friends have a clever plan to shake up the concept of live improv comedy with a new show called Drew Carey's Green Screen, which will debut in September on The WB Network. Yes, he'll have his performers act out quirky ideas suggested by an audience ("You're getting married underwater and are attacked by a giant squid."). But, with the aid of green screen, Drew's behind-the-scenes team will animate the skits, creating an actual improvised movie --- bringing to life what's
really going on inside their vivid imaginations. It promises to be a very fun and lively marriage of improv and animation, and I promise you this site will be at the forefront of all the action. We're getting ready for a major overhaul, so don't be surprised if you see a lot of green around here very soon...(Hint, hint.)
